Top features of the Samsung Genio Qwerty

When a new smartphone hits the market you can bet it has everything on-board apart from the kitchen sink, yet with each new development in the field manufacturers seem to lead the public further away from the real core of what having a mobile phone is all about – namely making calls, sending texts and generally staying in touch and up-to-date.

With their B3210 'Genio', Samsung has set its sights on bringing back the fundamentals to the world of the mobile. With reliability, value for money and ease of use married with good reception and sturdy construction you can focus on living your life, rather than sweating over making sure your phone is housed in a protective bubble.

Looks
The Genio Qwerty is a realistic device. It sets out its stall with one intention: to keep you communicating, and it fulfils it's raison d'être staunchly. While the device doesn't boast any bells and whistles, what it does offer is a well built chassis, with nicely arched lines, making it feel comfortable in the hand, a nicely designed and well spaced Qwerty keyboard, which makes for an effortless messaging experience, a 2-megapixel camera for capturing your fun moments for posterity and apps for accessing your most wanted social media services.

Operating System
Samsung's proprietary operating system makes the B3210 a doddle to use, with none of the complicated web-based setup options or convoluted text only menus that you'll find in its more expensive counterparts. Functionality is paramount with this device and the OS delivers this with a simplicity, which would suit the more techonophobic among us, or indeed people over a certain age who wish to have the perks of a Qwerty messenger without the complexities or extra subscription costs.

Battery
You'll also find that the Genio keeps going long after its more costly peers have run out of juice. With a standby time of over 2 weeks you won't have to concern yourself with buying an extra charger for this device. It will keep on trucking as long as you need it to, meaning you won't miss that important e-mail, call or text.

Storage
You can also rely on your Genio to keep you entertained with its excellent audio quality. With support for microSD cards up to 8GB in size you can load it with mp3's or simply listen to the on-board FM-radio.

Connectivity
Being a messenger at heart, the Genio has connectivity covered. It includes support for 3G, Bluetooth and quad-band, which means it will be in its element travelling with you. Naturally push e-mail support is included, as is support for instant messaging and MMS. So you'll have no trouble sharing your adventures with friends and family.

Final Thoughts
Overall the Genio Qwerty is a pleasing device to use. We found its simplistic approach really refreshing and the battery life harkens back to the good old days, when you only had to charge your phone 3 times a week! In decent light the camera captures surprisingly good photographs, and the build quality is everything we've come to expect from Samsung, its robust without being too cumbersome or heavy. So if you're in the market for a messenger but you don't want to spend a lot or get tied down, give the Genio a look.
