Top 5 HTC phones of 2010
In the world of the smartphone quality is king and in 2010 one manufacturer has provided it consistently, and that company is Taiwan's own HTC. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of Android or Windows Phone 7, whether you need a hardware QWERTY or a slick touchscreen, HTC will have a high-end device to sate your tech-lust and here, for your viewing pleasure, are the very cream of their crop.
5 - HTC Hero
HTC's Hero stands out as an original among imitators. As one of the very first touchscreen only Android devices, it helped set the standard, and the features it came with became staple for the Android breed. The device is well constructed, as you'd expect from HTC, and comes with a dependable 528MHz Qualcomm processor to keep things running smoothly, 288MB RAM and 512MB ROM to add a bit of perk to the mix, and all the trappings of Google's super Android OS, with the added bonus of HTC's Sense UI, which adds a visually pleasing and brilliantly practical facade to the whole affair. The 3.2-inch touchscreen is perfect for watching movies or viewing the pictures that you've captured with the cracking 5 mega-pixel camera too!
4 - HTC Desire
If you're looking for an Android device with a powerful processor, top-notch camera and all the apps and features you can shake a stick at, look no further than the HTC Desire. The device packs a whopping 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a healthy helping of RAM (576MB) and ROM (512MB) and a great quality 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and all this comes bundled into a sleek, well constructed chassis, topped off with a rich 3.7-inch touchscreen! Software duties are taken care of by Android (2.2 Froyo) adorned with HTC's custom Sense UI. What's not to like?
3 - HTC Mozart
Windows Phone 7 was launched with a collection of top-end handsets to showcase the new operating system's talents and foremost among this select group was HTC's Mozart. The Mozart comes equipped with everything you'd expect of a flagship device, such as a 3.7-inch Super-LCD touchscreen, 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, 512 MB ROM, 576 MB RAM, a spacious 8GB of storage and utilises the top-end hardware with Microsoft's hugely impressive Windows Phone 7 operating system. As the device's name suggests it's aimed squarely at music lovers and thanks to its Dolby Mobile and SRS support you'll find it hard to beat when it comes to audio quality. Thanks to its 8-megapixel camera with Xenon flash there's plenty of visual quality too though, meaning that altogether the Mozart is a package that's hard to beat.
2 - HTC Desire Z
HTC's Desire Z is the offspring of the phone that launched Android, the HTC Dream. It takes everything that made the Dream special and builds on it to create a mobile that is truly impeccable. Thanks to the amazing 3.7-inch Super-LCD, the responsive and durable hardware QWERTY keyboard (which is revealed by a silky sliding mechanism) or the impressive internals (800MHz CPU, 512 MB RAM and 1.5GB of storage, 5 mega-pixel camera with LED flash) you'll be hard pressed to find a device which can measure up to the Desire Z and if you're looking for a device which can keep you productive at work and in touch on your downtime, you need look no further.
1 - HTC Desire HD
Topping off HTC's hugely successful Desire range (and also our countdown) is the big-daddy of them all – the HTC Desire HD. The Desire HD takes all the features that make its siblings amazing, such as a top-end 8-megapixel camera, powerful 1GHz processor, Dolby Mobile & SRS, and adds a huge 4.3-inch Super-LCD touchscreen to the mix, giving you a device which is not only smart (thanks to Google's Android OS) but also beautiful. If you want a smartphone that will stand-in for your compact camera, your tablet or your media player, the Desire HD is the one to pick, which is why it's our number one!
It wasn't easy picking this top five, HTC's diligence, attention to detail and vision made sure of that. But these devices are at the very top of the smartphone tree. If you're looking for a new device or an upgrade you won't be disappointed with any of them, but we'd also like to give HTC's Wildfire an honourable mention. It may be a 'budget' device but it comes equipped with many of the features that make these five devices so special, so if you're watching what you spend, give it a look.
