The Very Best BlackBerry Handsets

We take a look at the best RIM has to offer and ask: what are the best BlackBerry handsets?

At the top of the BlackBerry tree you have the 9800 Torch, a device that truly bridges the gap between RIM's enterprise roots and the current competitive smartphone market. The device features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, amazing hardware QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus & LED flash and the latest and greatest version of BlackBerry OS, version 6. The package is powered by a workhorse 624MHz CPU and 512MB RAM, so you can be sure of a speedy experience and the 1300mAh battery keeps you connected for longer, whether you're working or enjoying some well earned time-off.

If you looking to stay faithful to RIM's roots then the Bold 9780 is the device for you. With its distinctive BlackBerry form factor, peerless hardware keyboard and bright 2.4-inch non-touch display the 9780 is compact masterpiece, but don't think you have to sacrifice any fun if you choose a Bold, as the device is also imbued with plenty of social networking prowess and a top quality 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. Power-wise the Bold is on par with the flagship Torch, boasting a 624MHz CPU and 512MB RAM, but without the expansive touch-screen to monopolise its runtime you get a far speedier device!

You don't have to go for the full-on premium package if you've got your heart set on a BlackBerry though, as RIM has plenty of budget friendly devices across its range which offer the same top-tier e-mail and messaging functionality. First-off you have the Curve 3G (9300) a device which is an able update to one of RIM's most popular models. It comes with the requisite industry leading keyboard and also offers a 2-megapixel camera and 256MB RAM.

If you're looking for something a little more traditional in size and shape you should take a look at the Pearl 3G (9105), which packs all the usual goodness such as BlackBerry e-mail service, PIN messaging and enterprise security within a small but perfectly formed chassis. The Pearl shuns the QWERTY keyboard in favour of RIM's hybrid SurePress keyboard which is just as accurate and responsive. The 9105 also gives boasts a 3-megapixel camera and dedicated audio controls on the top of the device which will enable you to make the most out the device's outstanding audio quality.

Last but by no means least you have the Curve 8520, RIM's entry level BlackBerry. The 8520 takes all  of the core philosophies behind the BlackBerry brand and distils them down into a small, light device with a great QWERTY keyboard and impressive battery life. If you choose the Curve 8520 you also get a solid 2-megapixel snapper with which to capture those impromptu moments and, like all of the other devices in the BlackBerry range, access to RIM's App World, and all the useful and fun applications that come with it!

So when you're choosing your next device, spare RIM a thought because to overlook a company with such strong pedigree could prove to be a mistake you'll regret.
