HTC Wildfire S: Everything You Need To Know
When it comes to smartphones, HTC seems to have the market covered, offering the sleekest of top-tier handsets and the most functional budget devices. The HTC Wildfire was a hugely popular device, appealing to the PAYG and contract customers alike, and now that HTC has announced its successor, the Wildfire S, we thought we’d tell you everything you need to know about this great new device.
Screen – The Wildfire S has a really decent display, measuring a respectable 3.2-inches, which displays 320 x 480 pixels, and is a TFT capacitive touchscreen. There’s an accelerometer for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and touch-sensitive controls, all of which make this a great entry-level touchscreen smartphone.
Internals – HTC has given the Wildfire S 512MB ROM and 512MB RAM, which is more than ample for this device, and the inclusion of a workhorse 600MHz processor sees that things tick over nicely when multi-tasking or performing more taxing tasks.
Camera – If it’s on-the-go snapping that keeps you happy, you won’t be disappointed with the 5-megapixel camera that the Wildfire S has to offer. You also get autofocus and LED flash, plus video capture and geo-tagging, which should mean that your impromptu videos and pictures are of fantastic quality.
Design – The Wildfire S is typically HTC. A large-screened, minimalist device with touch-sensitive controls on the front of the device, and a low profile camera and volume key on the sides, the Wildfire S is stylish yet functional, and looks as good in the hand as any high-end device out there.
Operating System – Continuing their hugely successful relationship with Google, HTC has given the Wildfire S an Android operating system, namely Android 2.3, known as Gingerbread. This means that users will be able to take advantage of the ever-growing Android Market, and have access to over 200,000 applications, many of which are free, allowing you to customise your phone in pretty much any way you want.
User Interface – HTC has overlaid the Android operating system with the incredible Sense UI, a user-interface based on the TouchFLO 3D design, to help you to really get the best out of your device. Sense UI allows you to add your choice of widgets and homescreen plug-ins, giving you a truly customised and personal experience with your device.
We predict that the Wildfire S is going to be even more popular than its predecessor, as it offers improved functionality and a really great feature-set. When you consider its projected sub £300 price-tag you’re left with a device that you'd be mad to pass up!
