Everything you need to know about the HTC EVO 3D

When it comes to exciting news in the mobile universe, it doesn’t get much more exciting than the HTC EVO 3D, the first release from the Taiwanese giant to include a 3D screen. We’ve been waiting with baited breath to see what this device would offer and here we tell you everything you need to know.

  • So, let’s start with the bit that you’re all most curious about. The EVO 3D has a 4.3-inch 3D S-LCD capacitive touchscreen which allows users to view 3D images without the use of glasses. This is because of the auto stereoscopic technology, which lets one eye see one image, and the other eye a slightly different images, thus giving us a 3D effect.
  • As well as the 3D display, you can also expect to see multi-touch input, touch sensitive controls, plus accelerometer, gyro sensor and proximity sensor.
  • There’s plenty of power inside this device, which packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and Adreno 220 GPU, as well as 1GB of RAM, 1GB of storage and a micro SD slot which supports cards up to 32GB in size.
  • Featuring TWO 5-megapixel cameras with autofocus and a dual LED flash for 3D photo and video capture, with the still shots capturing 2560х1920 pixels,  the EVO 3D's optics should be enough to satisfy the most particular of amateur snappers. The video capture comes in two flavours, either 3D video in 720p at 24 frames per second, or 2D video in full 1080p at 30 frames per second, and there’s a further 1.3-megapixel secondary camera for video calling.
  • It’s an Android device, running version 2.3 known as Gingerbread, and this means you’ll have access to the Android Market for app and games downloads, as well as being in total control of your phones appearance and functionality, as we all know how customisable Android devices are.
  • As well as playing mp4, XviD, H.263, H.264 and WMV out of the box, the audio options are great, supporting a wealth of file types and offering SRS virtual surround sound via wired headphones, so you’ll always be entertained in the highest quality!
  • One of the most important things that you need to know is that HTC has been decidedly hush-hush about the EVO 3D, it hasn’t even released an official statement yet, let alone a release date. This could mean two things – most likely is that HTC is keeping the lid on the project so that when it does announce it, it’ll make a huge impact. Or, and this is a biggie, it could end up going to way of certain other fabled devices, which get us all amped up and then never materialise. We’re predicting the former!

So there you have it, a breakdown of the need-to-know facts, which should have you chomping at the bit and waiting with baited breath for that official announcement. We can’t wait to see the EVO 3D in the flesh, as it’s sure to herald a whole new level of quality from the already brilliant HTC.
