Best smartphones of February
When you're in the market for a new smartphone it's easy to get bogged down in the mire of choice, incentive and latest and greatest hardware but there's one thing you can't look past, and that's value for money. This time around we're going to take a look at the top five devices on offer this month and see what you'll get for your money!
HTC Desire - One of the finest Android powered smartphones on the market is the HTC Desire, a device which is overflowing with top-tier functionality. The Desire runs on version 2.2 of Google's ubiquitous Android OS and is powered by a 1GHz Scorpion processor which, quite honestly, makes the device fly! Also included in this great package is a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, 576MB RAM and, the icing on the cake, a 3.7-inch Super LCD display which is great for watching videos or checking out your latest snapshots. The best thing about this device is that now its successor, the HTC Desire S, is on the market, it can be snapped up for a fraction of the price it once was!
Samsung Galaxy S - If you're looking for power then look no further than Samsung's Galaxy S. Running on a 1GHz Hummingbird chipset, the Galaxy S is as close to future proof as you're going to get in the crazy world of smartphones and also boasts version 2.2 of Android (soon to be version 2.3!), 512MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720P video capture and the pièce de résistance, a 4-inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass™ display that is perfect for watching movies. Being AMOLED it also has the added bonus of consuming less power than its LCD peers! What's not to love?
HTC Desire HD - You can't talk about mobile displays without tipping a nod in the direction of HTC's big-screened beauty the Desire HD. With 4.3-inches of screen real-estate to play with, you are unlikely to get eye-strain from watching films on your commute or surfing the web with this device, and with its 1GHz CPU, dedicated GPU and 768MB RAM you're unlikely to find a device that will cope with the rigours of daily life any better. Among its many notable features the Desire HD also includes an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash which is capable of producing excellent snaps, as well as Dolby Mobile and SRS support for unrivalled sound quality!
BlackBerry Curve 8520 - The Curve 8520 is our budget device of the month, but you wouldn't think it was bank-balance friendly to look at the spec-sheet. The Curve 8520 comes loaded with RIM's great BlackBerry OS and features the same high-end keyboard that you'd expect to find in BlackBerry devices that are twice the price. For your modest outlay you also get Wi-Fi, a surprisingly nice 2-megapixel camera and a nice music player, as well as the fantastic BlackBerry e-mail service, which is in a class of its own.
Motorola Defy - For the more ham-fisted among you, or for those of you that work in more demanding environments, we have the Motorola Defy, a device which is marketed as 'life-proof' and we can't disagree with that slogan one iota. It's dust-proof, water-proof and shock-proof and features a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi, MotoBlur™ running on top of version 2.2 of Android and a perennially reliable 800MHz Cortex A8 processor, so you won't have to wait around for this rugged device to catch-up with you. Screen-wise the Defy has things covered too, with a 3.7-inch Gorilla Glass™ display that will not only stand up to everything you throw at it, but will also provide you with a great viewing experience and plenty of responsiveness!
