Apple iPad top tips and tricks

Apple's iPad is the device which lit the touch paper for the current tablet explosion. With its great hardware, substantial battery life and thousands of apps and games, it'll keep you occupied for an age, not to mention aiding and abetting a rejuvenated approach to productivity.

If you're one of the lucky ones who got a shiny new iPad in your Christmas stocking this year or sre thinking of splashing your christmas cash on one, you might be wondering if there are any sharp tricks and shortcuts to help you make the most of your awesome new toy, so here for your perusal are some must-know tips for the Apple iPad.

Soft reset your iPad - The first and most important trick you should know is how to soft-reset your device. Now, we aren't saying that iOS based devices are prone to crashing (quite the opposite) but there may well come a time when you need to recover from an error and this is achieved by pressing and holding the power button (top) and home button (front) simultaneously for a few seconds. This should have you up and running again in no time.

Use Spotlight to get things moving faster - Spotlight is a great function of iOS which allows you to search for anything on your device in seconds. Simply swipe right from your homescreen to access the function. You can even launch your favourite apps from Spotlight just by typing in their names!

Mute your device in a hurry - If you're in the middle of the latest epic fail to go viral and your boss walks in, it might pay you to know how to cut the sound out quick smart. To do this, hold the volume down button for two seconds. Hey presto! No more noise.

Add your favourite web pages to your homescreen - If you're a frequent user of a certain web page you can cut out one or two screen swipes by adding a shortcut for the page to your Home screen. All you need to do is tap the ' ' symbol when you're viewing the page in Safari and select the 'Add to Home Screen' option.

Scroll super-fast - If you're reading a particularly long web page and you suddenly realise you missed something further up, save yourself from lots of annoying swiping by just tapping the title bar once. You'll immediately leap back to the top of the page and save yourself a valuable second or two.

Protect your stuff - If you've got friends who think it might be a jolly good wheeze to download the latest Justin Bieber album from your iTunes account, or sneak into your messages for a little mischief, you might want to password protect your apps. Select Settings>General>Restrictions and choose the 'Enable Restrictions', you'll then be asked to input a password, then just choose the apps that you want to protect with your new password.

There are a lot more tips and tricks you can utilise to enrich your iPad experience but it's our hope that this little collection of pointers might save you from wasting your valuable time, having your Facebook account tampered with to indicate your love for certain uncustomary proclivities or help you avoid being hit with an enormous credit card bill, courtesy of the neighbours toddler, leaving you free to enjoy the immersive experience offered by this great device.
